Kids in Costumes

These are my students wearing national costumes from different countries of the world. Every year we are having UN Day celebration to give awareness to our kids about the different countries of the world. It's also a time where we could pray for these countries as well as speak blessing to the children all over the world. They all looked so cute in their costumes.

The Halloween Cupcake Test

I have nothing to do today and while browsing just anything I was reminded to just take any quiz online. Since today is Halloween, I took this Cupcake Test and here's my result.

You have deep and genuine feelings. You are a very caring person.

You're the type not to make a fuss. You're more likely to sit back and figure out how you can help.

You're not looking for a lot of attention on Halloween. You're just happy to put a smile on someone else's face.

You believe that Halloween is mostly for kids, and you want to make it as special for them as possible.

Sounds true to me. You too can take the quiz by clicking the link above.

Family Day 2010

We had our family day last month. The Nursery kids did a dance number and they were asked to wear yellow shirts. They look so attractive with their shirts. Some of the kids didn't dance on the stage because "stage- fright" but they still look cute because of the bright colored shirt.

Flowers For You!

I am so blessed today because I received a lot flowers from my students. Today is Teachers' Day in the Philippines. I never expected these kids to gave me flowers because last year, nobody did so. I am so thankful for the parents of these kids. I admire their parents for teaching them about being thoughtful as well as for allowing them to experience the joy of giving. I can see from there faces that these kids were so proud that they have handed me their flowers. Their flowers may not be the grandest flowers but I truly thanked them for their thoughtfulness.

Happy Teachers' Day to all the teachers out there!

A Prayer for Teachers

Giver of all Wisdom and Greatest Teacher of all Teachers,
Look upon our teachers with love.

Grant them the resolve
To nurture our eager minds
And to never give up onus who fall behind

Bless their hearts
For they rejoice when we succeed
And encourage us when we fall

Endow them with gentle patience
For the path of learning is never easy

Kindle a spirit of passion in them
It is the flame that ignites the love of learning in us

Help them to see the potential in each student
Their belief in us means much more than the grade we make

Instill in them a commitment to keep on learning
It shows us to not fear new Knowledge and experiences

Inspire them to touch the future
They influence how big a dream we dream for ourselves

Bless our teachers who have come before
for their work endures to this day

Let the light of Your example shine upon all teachers:

To build up with their words
To love with their mind
To share with their heart

Amen.

September 3 to October 5 is Teachers' Month here in the Philippines. Let us Join the nation in thanking all the teachers who've touched our lives.

Watching Fireworks Display

Yesterday was a happy day, why? It is because I had the opportunity to watch fireworks display at one of the shopping malls here in our city. Not only that, my sister-in law was with me and provided me with a free dinner. I was also with my cousins that they and we all just had fun together watching the different fireworks effects and colors. We were all like little children standing in awe with the beautiful fireworks. I wish I brought my camera that day... (sigh). Anyway, I had so much fun!

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

I remember this song during my pre-school years and until now most pre-school kids are singing this song. Whenever I teach this song to my Nursery pupils they are so excited to sing this song and would ask to sing it over and over again. By the way, the video looks so cute. The kids will surely like it. Below is the lyrics of the song.

Twinkle, Twinkle
Little star
How I wonder what you are
Up above the world so high
Like diamond in the sky

Twinkle, Twinkle
Little Star
How I wonder what you are

The Colors of the Rainbow

This is a game for children which I got from kidssundayschool.com. Actually this game was made for the Noah's Ark story but if you are a teacher you can revise this game to teach colors to your students. Here's what the game is all about:

You will need:
  • chairs - it depends on the number of kids you will have
Preparation:
Place chairs in a circle, one for each child less one chair.

What you will do:
One child will start the game be standing inside the circle of chairs, while the other children take a seat. The one in the center will say, “I see a beautiful rainbow, and in it I see the color ____.” The child will select and say one of the colors of the rainbow, for example “green.” Then, everyone sitting down who is wearing anything that is green must stand. Then quickly, along with the child who was in the center, scramble to find and sit down in a different chair. Whoever does not find a chair to sit on goes to the center, and calls out another color in the same manner, by saying, “I see a beautiful rainbow, and in it I see the color ____.”

Continue to play if possible until everyone has a chance to go to the center and call out a color.

What you will say:
Noah lived long ago, along with his wife and his sons and their wives. When God saw that the rest of the world was full of people doing bad things, He told Noah to build an ark. God was going to send a great flood to cover the earth. The ark Noah built was huge. It had plenty of space for everyone to come in and sit down. But no one except Noah’s family believed God would flood the whole earth. God would only save Noah’s family and the animals.

Just like in Noah’s ark, there is plenty of room for all of us in Heaven. We don’t need to scramble for a seat.

Jesus told us a little about heaven when he said, “In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2) And I bet there will be pretty colors in heaven too. What do you think?

One of the favorite books that my students love are Bible Story books. Everyday before we start our class, I read them stories about the Bible. Kids love the stories and the colorful illustrations on the book. The stories does not just entertain kids but it teaches them Christian values. One story that teaches them not to be afraid is the story about "David and Goliath", another story that teaches children the importance of prayer is the story about "Daniel in the Lions Den". There a lot of stories in the Bible that teaches children some values which will help them grow as good individuals.

Doll Making

I used to make paper dolls during my grade school days. My cousins usually visits me at home because they love my paper dolls. They often asked me to make one for them. After many visits, I decided to sell my paper dolls to my cousins at an affordable price. They gladly bought and ordered more paper dolls because they want to sell it to their classmates too. That was the first business I had at the age of 8 years old.

I understand why my cousins loved my paper dolls. It is because during those times, you can’t find any paper dolls that are sold in the market. But nowadays, there are a lot materials which will help you make a good paper doll. I’ve found a nice “Doll Making Set” at Shopwiki today. The materials are colorful and I can say that it is far beautiful compared to my paper dolls before. If you are into Doll Making, you can find a lot of doll making resources as well as doll making materials at Shopwiki. You can also check on their buying guides about dolls like the Rag Dolls, Popular Dolls and more.

The Importance of Pretend Play

Young children learn by imagining and doing. When you allow your child to engage in pretend plays, you are helping your child develop a lot of skills while he grows up. Pretend play helps your child explore emotions and develop a sense of security. It also builds self-esteem when he discovers that he can be anything just by pretending. Added to that, pretend play can also develop language and thinking skills among children.

Your role as a parent is to motivate your child’s self expression by providing him with an environment that gives the freedom to be what he wants to be. Added to that you can also provide materials such as pretend play toys, pretend play costumes and accessories or allow him to engage in role playing games.

Nurture your child’s imagination today. Try shopping for pretend play toys or pretend play costumes and accessories. If you doesn’t know where to find one, try shopping at Shopwiki. You can find great pretend play toys as well pretend play costumes and accessories on this site. Not only that, you can also find buying guides on this site that will be beneficial for you and your child.

After our graduation program last Wednesday (March 24, 2010), we were invited by a parent of our student to have dinner with them at Cafe Laguna. This is one of the food we had, a "Kinilaw" dish and it looks very yummy. Yes, it is indeed delicious and creamy. I like the presentation too.

The Pajama Party...

We had our school's Pajama Party last January and I am thankful to God for keeping the kids safe during the entire activity. I was very tired after the activity but all of my efforts paid off upon seeing every student all with happy faces. Below are some of the photos of our activity.

He Will Spank Me...

I gave a quiz to my nursery pupils last Wednesday. All of them did well with the quiz. Some of them got a perfect score, while the others got a good score with only 2 or 3 mistakes. When it was time for them to go home, I read their scores and reminded them to show their papers to their parents. I was so surprised when one of student interrupted me. He told me that his dad will spank him if he didn't get a perfect score. Another student added, "me too teacher, my dad will also get mad and spank me with his belt." I was a bit disturbed about the kids' statements. I was sad because their parents are too particular about scores where in fact their kids are only pre-schoolers. In my own opinion, a good score doesn't matter much. What matters most is a good attitude, a good character. When we expect too much from them while they are still in their preschool, these kids may grow up to be perfectionist in the future.

To all parents out there, please take it easy... don't be too hard on your kids. Allow them to enjoy school life while they are still young.

20 Common Ways Parents Provoke Children to Anger

I am currently preparing for my Bible story for the kids tomorrow.I'll be sharing them the story about "The Prodigal Son". I was browsing for pictures and suddenly I came across with this topic "Twenty Common Ways Parents Provoke Children to Anger". This is an article from www.characterjournal.com. I was interested about this article and thought of sharing it to you because I find the points very helpful to parents and hopeful parents like me. Here it is:

  • By modelling anger. Proverbs 22:24-25
  • By not having marital harmony. Genesis 2:24 (Repeated four times in the Bible); Hebrews 12:15
  • By consistently disciplining in anger. Psalm 6:1; 38:1
  • By being inconsistent with discipline. Ecclesiastes 8:11
  • By having double standards. Matthew 23:1-4; Philippians 4:9
  • By not admitting when wrong. Matthew 5:23-26; Job 32:2; James 5:16
  • By constantly finding fault. Job 32:2-3
  • By reversing God-given roles. Ephesians 5:22-24; Genesis 3:16
  • By not listening to the child’s opinion or the child’s side of the story. Proverbs 18:13,17
  • By comparing them to others. 2 Corinthians 10:12
  • By not having time to talk with them. Ephesians 5:18
  • By not praising the child. 2 Corinthians 2:6-8; Revelation 2,3
  • By failing to keep promises. Matthew 5:37; Colossians 3:9; Psalm 15:4
  • By scolding him/her in front of others. Matthew 18:15; John 21:15-17
  • By giving too much freedom. Proverbs 29:15; Galatians 4:1-2
  • By being too strict. James 3:17
  • By making fun of the child. Job 17:1-2
  • By abusing them physically. 1 Timothy 3:3; Titus 1:7; Numbers 22
  • By calling them names. Ephesians 4:29
  • By having unrealistic expectations. 1 Corinthians 13:11
Have you done one of the things listed here? Let's think about this over and over again. Let's make sure that in every action we make to our kids it will not give a big consequence in the future.

Pajama Party

I'm excited because we'll be having a Pajama Party tomorrow. All of our Kinder 1 and Kinder 2 pupils will be joining the activity. The kids are very excited but the parents are starting to have separation anxiety. LOL! I've talked to the parents later this afternoon, and they were already packing their kid's things but they also want to join the activity. We are doing this activity to develop in them independence as well as their self-confidence. I'm already listing the activities that we will be doing tomorrow. I hope it's going to be a lot of fun.

I'll update you about it on my next posts...

Can I Kiss You?

It was already twelve noon... time to go home. I bid good bye to one of my co-teachers and was about to leave. As I was packing my things, a little girl (one of my students) came and stand by my side. I looked at her and asked... "What is it?" I thought she wants something from me, but to my surprise she told me, "Can I kiss you teacher?" Awwwww... my heart melted. I immediately answered "Sure" and she kissed and hugged me. What a sweet child. As I was going home, I whispered prayer to God that she would bless that child.

Superman Cake

My nephew Clark Ken celebrated his first Birthday today. He had a Superman themed birthday party and this is his birthday cake. I like the Superman figurine on top, it looks so cute. Superman was standing on mallows and chocolates. This cake was made from Goldilocks. As always, all cakes from Goldilocks taste really good.

A Cute Flower

MellowYellowMondayBadge

This photo was taken during our Graduation practice last year. Part of the costumes of the kids is this cardboard flower to be worn as a mask. All the kids looked so cute with this flower especially during their actual performance. All their parents were so proud of their kids because they all did really well in their dance number.
